Perth magician, Steve Silk wins 2018 Perth Magic Competition
Perth magicians compete in an annual magic event each year that is hosted by the West Australian Society of Magicians and where close-up and stage magicians perform to get their hands around the Fred de Campe trophy.
In this year’s event, Perth magician, Steve Silk, performed two acts, a comedy rope routine and a hand shadow show. Hand shadows have returned to mainstream entertainment largely thanks to Raymond Crowe’s “Wonderful World”. With it’s emphasis on hand shapes and sleights, this form of entertainment provides an ideal channel for magicians. Steve presents a world-first version of a hand shadow show to the soundtrack of the Unicorn Song.
Steve has won the annual competition four times since its inception in 2011. His creative magic style draws amazement, surprise, gasps and delight. Steve Silk is a world-class roving and stage magician performing at corporate events, weddings and parties. He builds loads of fun into these close-up magic performances that gets small groups of guests gasping, laughing and having fun. This is world-class magic right in front of guests’ disbelieving eyes.
Steve is working on extending his shadow routines to includes world-first performances set to sound tracks. Although hand shadows are not the exclusive domain of magicians, they portray magic and sleight of hand perfectly. The shadow show below was a year in the making as the hand formations and slight nuances in how the shadow may alter shape at the last minute only come from a lasting commitment to practicing and perfecting this art form.
